Influenza has been around. We have a hundred years of data on it. We know how it spreads. We have yearly vaccines for it. We have a significant amount of herd immunity that prevent many people from catching it.

We have none of that for COVID. If this becomes endemic, we may have all of that eventually, but not until it kills a lot of people.
