The game suffers a lot from not having decent catch up mechanics, so you can't just flat out say "you should have farmed this a long time ago", or "save your crystals". People who have been playing for half a year or less simply don't have that luxury.
Been a while since I've really posted, but this statement caught my interest as it is one of two fundamental truths about this game. Which are:
1. The new characters are the content, and they generally will aim to get the largest slice of the player base to pay. This means: late requirement notices, packs that will get you a 5* unlock, and meta breaking toons (CLS is the new kid on the block, but its been happening since Nihilus.)
2. There really is no catch up mechanic. Argue about it as long as you want, but when I had to work for 7 months in an area without cell service, I have not been able to catch my shard. This particular meta has treated me well due to the Zarriss counter meta team (I had or was finishing most of these toons) and because I farm speed mods enough to get to the rank I want (quite literally the shard is the same 3 squads and a bunch of speed tiers-when I'm busy these days and drop a bit I can very easily get back to the top 20 because I simply out-speed those above 20), but it is very likely that the next one will not. Even though I am doing well in arena I am 1/2 mil or more GP behind my shard, and very likely they will get the next meta toon (or have old toons if there is synergy there) and I will not. I'll drop, they'll stay, and the ones who can't take the hit will pay.
My recommendation to those who want to break this cycle is either bust out your wallet and never look back and then find a guild full of fun people to talk to (note: GP, TB stars, and all that other stuff isn't part of this), or just put your wallet away and go find a fun guild anyways. The community is what makes this game; the development is shoddy at best (raid ticket bug) and the community management always seems to have a hand tied behind their backs.
Get over it, move on, and enjoy the fact that you can make friends with cool Star Wars fans around the world. At the end of the day Yoda and 3 or 4 clones beat a bunch of AAT tanks and we as a community just beat one.... Its just a game, and if winning is that important to you then perhaps you should realize that the strategy in the game is just to have the best mods on the newest toons, and that is fundamentally uninteresting. Star Wars makes it cool, and the community is deserving of a much better game than this. In the meantime go kill 5 random snowtroopers 5 days a week and may the force be with you!
