Huge difference is that you could easy have chars for CLS as f2p but for this event it wasn't just enough time to farm vets to 7* w/o cashing out. If you calculate crystal requirement for buying shards regulary from shipments, yields around 260 shards per character cba doing exact math but that's way more crystals than f2p can generate.
Fast math is 120(buys) 320 crystals each for 480 shards (both vets) equals 38400 crystals only for vets so how much time you need to generate that amount of crystals if you don't buy them?
Personally not paying for any game instead of wow witch is p2p game and i droped idea getting Rey this year but personally i think it was just not enough time to farm vets to 7* without cashing out quite some $

figured id repost just because...So many people make the reference that this event is for whales. But what makes someone a whale? me for instance. I started farming resistance and FO before last BB8 event. Figured with a new movie coming out, something should be coming, and just guess my surprise when Rey's event was announced. Then they offered crystals on sale to come with an additional 25%, on top of double cantina drop rates and releasing Vets in cantina.

So I did the math. Making a guess that rey's event wouldn't possibly come before the 7th of December since BB8 had to return. then I account for all crystals arena and daily activities would yield meant that to have them both at 7 star I needed to spend $120 on crystals.

I'm constantly watching out for any new info being released on event expectancy and it never comes. This also means that my timed farming is changing with that flow of being released later than that date of the planned 7th and I now forecast I will still have 5k crystals left after Vets are 7*.....

To sum it up, Rey event will cost me $80. While that may very well make me an dummy for spending money on a dumb game, that doesn't really make me a whale. They gotta make something and I don't feel that with all the hints and they way they released specials, farm nodes, and content that makes EA that unreasonable. my two cents

Your 2 cents i read few days ago and laughed, how much crystals you generate per day? 2k? c'mon really you spent ~100$ on this event, how much you spent for gearing chars you have? I love those "not whales" posts from people who spend few thousand of or more $ in 2 years on cell phone game. True i know all this kind of games are p2w but really stop bshting about preparations. I didn't have FO for 1st BB8 appearance and its my fault coz i just didn't want to farm FO over Empire/Sith/rebels i needed for different aspects of game. I didn't unlock CLS only because i was lazy to farm STHan coz i didn't like him and i don't consider him useful for me personally and i didn't brag about those events. This event is just not f2p friendly and that's it.
If you tell me that non whale is a guy ( lot more than 1 i saw) who did 12k normal battles and around 8k hard mode battles but have every character in game and almost every single char on G12 full zetaed while in around 18 months i play i'm not even close to have 50% of hes GP with around 18k normal and over 13k hard mode battles than it is really useless to comment or even read your posts.Nothing personal there ofc but really........
