Exactly my point as to why this was never possible for f2p players. As a true f2p, you can't retain the top spot in both arenas for MONTHS while dedicating no resources to improving those teams. It's just not possible.
I agree with you, to be in those top spots you have to already be spending or have spent, really. And if not you are one of the .0001% who could actually unlock p2Rey without paying
