Only battle squads you won't lose allies against. Even if you're convinced you can win, but they're capable of OHKing one of your toons, refresh to see if there's anything easier: you get more points for your surviving toons than for beating theirs.
Other than that, prepare to do an endless number of battles and pray you get a good shard.
