Ship Health Segments

Anyone else find it odd that they deliberately chose to make ship battles worse by making it harder to tell the distinction between ship's healths due to making the health segments so much larger?

How does this make it harder to tell? I'm pretty sure you are exactly wrong and it makes it easier. Suppose that each segment represents 1k health, and you are looking at a ship with 30k vs. a ship with 50k health. You will never be able to tell the difference, because they both just look like a lot of lines close together. But change it so that each segment is 2.5k health and all of a sudden you are looking at 12 vs. 20 bars and the difference in width will be easy to see.

You seem to assume the OP is not Rainman and can intuit the number of bars in a flash of insight and simplifying it will, indeed, make it harder!
  • It doesn't matter either way - they said it has no affect on health or protection, it's just a visual manipulation.

    It's whatevs.
  • I actually like this change. But would prefer the following:
1- only 4 bars of each protection and health
2- when you select any unit, you see a bar like the raid bosses, displaying the actual health amounts (e.g. 10,000/52,000). If the unit has protection, there would be 2 separate color coded bars.

This way, you have the simple visual of # of remaining health bars and the expanded view for more selective attacks (savage opress special for example). There also wouldn't be so many Darth Nilly complaints.
  • I agree with the OP, I don't like it either. It's hard to see how much health left a ship has. Maybe it's a matter of time until we get used to it, but I see no reason for this change in the first place
  • I don't buy the "just visual" argument, I've dropped 100+ ranks since the update and am losing battles I don't normally lose... something is off for sure

It IS to do with the health bars visual changing, but nothing to do with anything going wrong with it - you dropped ranks because it's doing exactly what it's supposed to do and make reading maximum/remaining health way easier

People who are attacking your fleet now have a much better idea of who will die fast and so are playing better against you. Before, it was obvious certain ships had less health but extremely difficult to tell just HOW squishy they are until you attack them

For example take cassian's U wing, before the update it almost looked like a tank from how many bars it had in its health bar but after the update it's completely obvious that it's built of cardboard - same with things like scimitar and wedge

Yup, as others have mentioned already, the adjustment was strictly toward the visual component of health and protection. Although it will take time to adjust to the new segment density, it's a good move because it easily enables better decision-making for most players. So if you're falling more now than before, it's due to your attackers being able to make better-informed decisions. And possibly a case of confirmation bias, too (on the "climbing is more difficult" aspect).

Yes, it's just a matter of time until we're more familiar and comfortable with it. The change was almost necessary because before this update Ahsoka could look almost as tanky as Fives when in fact they're on completely opposite ends of the health/protection spectrum. Now that difference is a bit easier to see.
  • Something is different. I literally have lost 1 ship battle in months. I take 1 easily if I'm on. Ever since I reached about 150k power. Ship battles have been so ridiculously easy, even against people 10-15k power higher than me (give TFP retribution and laugh as everyone either misses him and grants TM to capital ship or he counters with high damage and restores his protection).

I've now lost 3 battles in A row. 2 to ships with a lower power than mine. Ships are dying quicker than they were previously. My TFP is getting 1 shot where that's rarely happened in the past (except for some Poes occassionally). This is more than just horrible RNG at this point. These results are massively out of line with the previous 2 months, and it's occurring with the update. I'm highly suspicious something got screwed up.

Nope, check the stats on each of your ships' stat page. You'll see your numbers haven't changed at all. It could be you're underestimating amount of health left (I did it too the first couple fights I played after the update), it could also be other people gearing up their crew members better or hitting another rarity tier on their ships (both happened to one of my main competitors and it caught me off guard on a stream Sunday night, lost the match because of it when I normally win). Nothing changed other than visual things.
