So now that I've been through two cycles of battles, here's my Ships 2.0 thoughts. I do not like it. But a lot of reasons why I don't like it are things that could change over time:
-I have no idea what I'm doing and am still experimenting heavily.
-I'm hesitant to commit these rare reinforcement abilities to ships without knowing how to use them; I'm thinking of them as zetas, and you don't spend zetas lightly.
-As F2P, I don't like worrying that my crystal income is in jeopardy because 1) I don't know what I'm doing and 2) it's too soon to commit reinforcement abilities.
-My shard 5 months old and half-developed, so everyone is running Vader Biggs TFP because those are the best ships everyone has. We don't have opportunity for diversity or counters yet.
-The battles take longer...mostly because I don't know what I'm doing and thinking about every step.
-In my shard that only has one Chimaera, we've reverted back to Fastest Tarkin Wins. The TFP/Scimitar trick can't reliably be used to get around this anymore, which, bummer. This will probably get sorted out by finding new lineups.
I think with more time, more practice, some GC videos, some feedback from the whale guilds, PVE table opening, etc. most of these dislikes will fade.
Then there are issues that probably can't be changed:
-My resources are already spread pretty thin, and I'm obviously going to have to put some work into some of my pilots that I had planned on leaving alone for the time being. So. Many. Stun Guns.
-I have had TERRIBLE RNG getting target lock to land. I kind of think this is the subtle Biggs nerf - he's useless if I can't land a TL quickly.
-The opponents with 75K+ GP more than me were becoming beatable, but now I stand no chance. Then again, a common complaint was that whales were getting beaten by much weaker teams, so this is probably an intentional change. It's just bad for my hopes of finally taking 1st consistently.
So... I don't like it, but I can't definitively say it's BAD yet. It's new and uncomfortable, and it's a resource drain, but maybe in a month the advantages will be clearer.
