CG does not make this clear for new players trying to unlock new capital ships. They are all time locked behind 1 day a month. CG has been asked many times from the community as a whole to get rid of time locks and just let us do the missions normally to unlock our ships. They don't care as long as someone feels the need to put money towards unlocking a ship before the next time it's available. Which is nonsensical since they have been out for so many years.

I don’t recall it being like this for Discarded Doctrine. 

Discarded Doctrine also only comes around once a month. All three big ships are like that, and always have been.

I get that for the event but even for the first four teirs? I must have just gotten lucky before. 

Unlocking ships used to be better. When I did Profundity for the first time I had an early upcoming notification and an event notification in game telling me there's a new event to be played. They have removed that because people were complaining about all the trash marquee unlock events that couldn't be replayed. Instead of removing trash marquee unlocks we got shafted to not know when events and unlocks are in game. It's pathetic on CGs part because they're so lazy and probably removed the useful event notifications to spite us.
