So I'm not sure how many of you use the stormtrooper but I've only ever used him with the empire synergy and he still sucks. I know he gains lots of defense, but its still not enough to keep up with ...

Adding a skirt or yellow line down his back to the graphic should help.
Character in it's current state is just "horrible". Put up defense and taunt = certain death. 7* level 10 gear nothing but a marshmallow. Stormtrooper is pretty much a hindrance in the Empire Mod. challenge.
Either make him more durable (HP, defense, etc.) or add more damage to his make up.
And I agree with the earlier post about giving taunt to FOST. That would be a great upgrade to that toon.
