No, sorry.
I do see downsides, both for players and the devs.
For example, the current game meta is Jedi Knight Revan. Most speculation seems to be wishing that Darth Revan is coming next. So let's assume that's right and that Darth Revan will be the counter to Jedi Knight Revan.
Darth Revan arrives and ... boom, everyone resets all their Jedi Knight Revan characters and transfers all their resources to Darth Revan's squad.
No more farming of gear or ability mats. Just transfer everything from one meta to the next, each time a new one comes out.
That is definitely NOT what the devs want. They want us farming and potentially paying to keep up with each new meta. If we can do that by just transferring the toys from the old meta over, that's less money for them.
As for the players, it will result even more in those at the top staying at the top and not letting anyone new in. If you have all g12 characters in your current meta squad and then just transfer it all over to the new meta squad, you avoid having to find the rarer gear that only drops in raids, etc. So those players who still don't have those gear will continue to lag behind you as you already have it all because you only ever needed to find it once.
The current system means you each have to find it all again for every character. That's more of a slog but it's fairer on the other players. You can't "farm once, I win" like you currently can with mods.
