The main issue I have with your idea is that it's a decided advantage to the attacking arena team. If it were live gameplay then maybe it would work. But there's nothing stopping the attacking team from taunting.
And for what it's worth, I'm seeing less and less of SThan/RG teams in my shard. Especially now that EP has made empire teams what they are now. A lot of Anakin/Jedi teams. A lot of droid teams. None of which have good synergy with taunting tanks. Now that I'm reading my comment back to myself, I see no reason to fix something that isn't broken.
