Yoda is great for p1 as his tenacity up prevents tons of debuffs. Anakin would be good too, but remember at heroic with no roster refresh you want to pace your squad throughout the phases. Phase 1 is easy to manage 3-4% without Anakin, and better to save him for p2 or p3 where AOE makes a big impact. So unless you have jawa, ugnaught fully ready, you will want to save Anakin for p3.
Same for EP, although he might be handy in most phases, his AOE and stun are best served in p3.
It has been said many times now, p3-p4 are x5 harder than p1-p2, especially if you burn through your best rosters in the early phases.
Normal mode is good practice as with roster refresh you can see which toons perform best at which phase. In heroic you really have to pace yourself and the whole guild. Focus on which toons are good for p3-p4, as you will manage to get by p1-p2 someway or another.
