Pointless, meaning there is no merit at all. If you are at a disadvantage, it is because you have too many low-level characters on your roster, not because some members of the opposing guild decided to sit out.
Solution: there is none, but you can try concentrating your development on specific squads instead of trying to build your whole roster evenly. And stop unlocking characters you don't intend to immediately develop to a high level.
Honestly I feel that's a terrible strategy. You never know what you'll need for the next op character. If you don't have a balanced roster you'll almost definitely miss out on the next meta. That was a good strategy before cls came out now I believe if possible you want as many characters unlocked around gear 7 or better so you can jump on the panic farm. If you miss out on the next meta as a guild you won't win much after that.
I did not say anything about the best strategy for the rest of the game. If OP wishes to gain a better advantage in TW, focused development is the best way to go.
but it will have consequences when attempting to meet other goals, and the devs may change TW in the future.
