I'm 100% F2P and agree fully with OP with one exception. Malak is still relatively attainable to F2P who exhibit good resource management. I will get him. Those that won't need to evaluate their own game play and course correct. I'm already in saving mode for hawk and emp shuttle because I am anticipating they will be needed.
I am on shards and compete against players who have literally spent tens of thousands of dollars (highest was a top 15 on swgoh.gg) while I remain 100% f2p. In what other game could that happen?
