Don't get me wrong... I understand the lust for money as well as the next guy. I completely understand why this "power creep"' happens and how it benefits the creator...
New characters that are introduced are simply an answer to the already created problem of characters that are too strong for unforeseen reasons... lando is too strong... So put in a character like shoretrooper to nullify him
Other characters could be brought in line and made useful but instead they keep making every new character have some ridiculous skill set that answers whatever perceived issues due to existing imbalances
It's a parabolic curve of adjustments that make 95% of the the existing characters serve no purpose...
And that sucks...
