the ability to debuff is way more important than the ability to resist debuffs, that's why tenacity sucks and that's why it's a good thing that it sucks.
I don’t understand this logic at all.
If the characters ability to inflict debuffs is so essential (I agree it is for many characters), then investing in potency should be important. Right now potency is useless because tenacity is useless. This means these characters that rely on debuffs can invest in protection/offense/speed/etc instead of potency, since there is no threat of high tenacity characters running around.
I guess what I’m saying is I’m fine if a character who goes all out on potency can get it so high that their debuffs can’t be resisted. But require them to invest in potency. Make it so a team that goes all out on tenacity against a team that completely ignores potency will resist almost everything.
in your opinion what should happen when a team that went all out on potency faces a team that went all out on tenacity?
They should basically cancel each other out and from a debuff standpoint it be the same as neither side investing in potency/tenacity.
So modding for tenacity would still not work, since the other would just mod for potency.
It wouldn’t work if the other team modded for potency, sure. But would everyone mod for potency? If so then fine, they miss out on other stats, and then someone who ignores tenacity will have an advantage. That would be the risk of going all out on potency, you miss the chance at other stats.
same goes for modding everyone for tenacity, they just cancel eachother out. So what's the point? Hoping the other guy doesn't mod his debuffing toon for potency because others haven't modded their toons for tenacity? I guess that could work, but i'd rather keep potency/tenacity the way it is.
There should be some advantage gained for going all out on tenacity. There currently is very little, and sometimes none at all, even if the enemy ignores potency. As I showed above, adding a tenacity mod to the highest tenacity toon in the game under a tenacity lead does 0 against a meta team. Absolutely nothing.
It makes no sense to me that an entire dynamic of gameplay (tenacity vs potency) is nearly useless. It’s not even debatable to me that this is a problem. The exact details on how it should be fixed are up for debate, but something needs to be done here.
Agree to disagree. I'm very happy the influence mods have on being able to resist/debuff is limited. I couldn't care less about having a useless mechanic (tenacity/potency) ingame.
By calling the tenacity/potency mechanic useless, you inadvertently agree with the baseline argument Bulldog1205 is making: that tenacity and potency need to be reworked. For someone who couldn’t care less about the mechanic, you sure have a lot to say about it.
maybe i phrased it wrong; i couldn't care less about it being useless.
It's not entirely useless, but for the most part it doesn't really influence game play and/or modding. I think pretty much everyone agrees with that. Some believe that's reason enough to rework it, i on the other hand would like to keep it "not entirely useless".
I think reworked tenacity/potency is probably worse than having it being "not entirely useless". I don't think it will make the game more fun to play. Obviously that depends on how you rework it, but in this case upping tenacity to be a more viable strategy.
I also don't care about crit avoidance being "not entirely useless". One could easily argue that it needs to be reworked because it's not doing anything, but i'm a strong supporter of just leaving it be and NOT making it worse in an attempt to make it better.
