The sad state of the game

While I realise CG isn't going to read this, much less respond to it in neither words or actions, I still feel the need to put this out there somehow.

In my eyes, this game is currently dying by a thousand cuts. What do I mean by that? Well, the last few months, I've seen one player after another leave, and we're talking people who have been playing this game for a very long time. Their reasons are usually pretty similar, and I'm feeling the same pain.

Some of the bigger pain points:

  1. TW - The completely forgotten game mode. I've long since stopped applying omis for TW, and participate in the one easier matchup we get after being smashed by sandbagging guilds. In those matches, I just make sure to get a score high enough to be eligible for rewards and call it a day. How could this be fixed? Well, instead of just looking at the total signed up GP, simply put the number of signed up players into the matchmaking equation. It still wouldn't be perfect, but it would be a whole lot better than it is today. This is simple, basic logic, and hasn't been done for years. This game mode is as dead as can be.
  2. GAC - The almost as forgotten game mode. It's stale, and more often than not it comes down to luck in one or two battles, and if you win those you win, otherwise it's a loss. Strategy is becoming less and less relevant, datacrons and RNG is becoming more and more of a thing. It stopped being fun a long time ago for me, I participated because I felt I needed to, not because I wanted to. And doing the matches is always a chore. Going forward, I'm probably not going to participate at all in this, because it gives me no enjoyment. How could this be improved? Change it up a bit. Why not let people choose if a zone or a team is 5v5 or 3v3? Or place ships wherever they like? Let us customise it, and brine some actual strategy into it.
  3. Coliseum - This is like forcing a **bleep**. It hurts, but you get it done. After a while, the LSTs are worthless. The coaxial servomotors are abundant, there are other materials I'm lacking. So where my incentive to do well? And why do I have to play it with low geared, pre defined characters, instead of being able to theorycraft with loaned units if my own choosing?
  4. Content - It feels like all we get is new characters. Granted, that can be fun sometimes. But is that what I want? Not really. I want content, I want to engage with the game itself. I want new game modes, not 500 new characters to do the exact same thing I'm doing every day. I want the game to feel fresh, by actively doing things I enjoy, because somehow I feel like I want a game I play and spend money on to be fun. One example is galactic challenges. While those were also a bit chore like, I liked the sentiment. New, fresh challenges for me to use my characters, new and old, to solve. I'm not saying being back galactic challenges, I'm saying bring anything that also brings that sense of new challenge, instead of pumping out characters for old, stale game modes. Conquest is somewhat close, but not exactly varied, since they're the same one after another.
  5. Ships - These are almost as broken as TW. Why do they even exist? You use them in the odd battle in TB, everyone tries to avoid hitting fleets in TW, and in GAC, it's something you leave, hoping you don't need to play it for the full clear. Some ships are utterly and completely broken, and there is zero development in this area. You need ships because CG said so, not because you want to use them.

Now, I realise CG need to earn money on their game, and that's fine, I'm all in favour of that. But shouldn't a game be enjoyable? Am I the only one getting a bit tired of the lack of any content whatsoever except characters? I already have a full relic roster, meaning I'll probably be able to counter pretty much everything, so why bother with new characters until they are farmable? FOMO doesn't really work for me, not even close to an incentive to spend. It's a game. Virtual characters. We play this for fun, not because we're being forced to keep up. And that is a route games have taken before, and it usually leads to their demise.

This isn't intended as a "I hate CG and their game!!11oneone", it's more of a concern. Because I love this game, and I love Star Wars. I just feel like I'm being increasingly preyed upon with constant sneaky ways to make me pay for stuff I don't really enjoy. This is what causes people to leave once they have enough of that.

  • Focus datacrons are broken right now. so there is also them not having there own stuff out for months break randomly now.,

  • Have to say I completely agree with you OP. I've just finished the farm for Leviathan this week so I'm waiting for the event to come back around but honestly I echo your sentiment. Why am I bothering with ships at all. I am and have been consistent in the top 50 fleet for about 6 years now, getting Leviathan isn't going to change this in any significant way as I will not be joining any fleet shard chat things and being dictated too when I can have a pay out etc. So where does that leave fleets... no where. Can't remember the last time our TW's went anywhere near fleet battles and my GAC opponents seldom full clear me anyway.

GAC is stale as F. I do the bare minimum to maintain Aurodium status so I still get a semi decent crystal payout but that's it.

Galactic Challenges were a fun concept but totally ruined by constant paywall feats. I fear any new game mode they introduce will be the same thing. Just like colosseum, pay and you'll have a modicum of fun. Don't pay and well, F you!

I don't actually hate the game despite the above rant and I do regularly support it monthly by buying the season pass but, I like you and many others, am becoming increasingly jaded with the constant character releases and no where to genuinely enjoy playing with them all. There's full teams in my Roster I haven't used in forever (looking at you Tuskens, Bad Batch and Bounty Hunters) because they're either completely useless or the limited amount of battles allowed in games modes simply excludes the need to use them.

I might just go back to a "Collector" mentality and just enjoy collecting and levelling for the sake of doing so and not bank on CG bringing any fun games modes down the line.

As someone who recently got Levi, I no longer have to compete furiously for top 20 anymore as much

I feel the same.  Built a guild from nothing to 500 mil and the along come relic delta.  Lost 20% of our members and couldn't recruit any new members because every guild was losing players.  Personally, I wasn't a whale, but a value player who usually but the bundles and deals when they benefited my goals.  I won't be spending another dime when it appears to me the game is dying.  A complete waste of money with so many long term players quitting everyday.

    I agree.

Granted, the Coliseum was an attempt to deliver new, fresh content. Unfortunately, it sucks. It's just a boring wallet check that's entirely on rails unless you shell out.

TW and GAC suffer from bad matchmaking and nothing fresh for years.

Ships is stale. Imagine the game if there were only 11 leaders, only 3 of which were viable. Yeah, that's ships.

Galactic Challenges could be frustrating, sure (some of those modifiers were BS), but at least it was somewhere I could use the characters I have. It was also the only place I could just mess around whenever I wanted. (I kind of like Conquest for these reasons. It's always around for those two weeks.)

Yes, we're getting lots of new characters, but we can't use them in any mode we care about for 3 months. And then what? I remember being kind of excited about finally getting Stormtrooper Luke in my hands after the era ended. But then it was days before I could use him in anything.

In so much of the game, what should feel exciting just feels meh.

  • Me, I've reached a conclusion until something major happens. Why do we participate in GAC/TW? To get crystals and materials. Why do you need those? To advance in said game modes.

But, as previously mentioned, those game modes are broken. Therefore, I'm currently in my last GAC for a long while, and only participate in every third TW, where there's any chance for decent rewards.

This means that I'm left with what's mainly a character collection game, plus TB, which I'm still enjoying. This, in turn, means I'm going from small whale to free to play, because any incentive to do anything else has been removed by the almost exclusive focus on monetisation of new characters, leaving the actual game content behind.

FYI we're 4-8 weeks out from announcements regarding the next raid. DK if you like raiding, but I like theory crafting and learning the intricacies of battles that also have puzzle-like qualities. The best in that sense was the KAM battle, but raids always have some of that. If you enjoy them the way I do, you at least have that too look forward to this summer (and to work towards starting sometime in May.

Yeah, I do enjoy raids, TB as well. But for me personally, any PvP mode in the game is broken one way or another to such an extent it's not enjoyable. Raid and TB are basically what saves the game from being a Pokémon card collector game the way it currently sits.
