This kind of system is extremely beneficial for everyone involved and it isn't hard to organize. It does make things a lot tougher for anyone not in the group but in my experience, if you're strong enough to consistently cause problems, the group would rather have you join them than continue fighting you every day. That's because the more people who are in the group, the less likely that any of them will need to spend crystals in order to lock somebody out.

In fact, if people are spending crystals in order to prevent you from sniping the #1 spot, I can almost guarantee that they would love to have you join them.

Arena is called arena not "make friends with people in the server to maximize rewards." The point is to fairly fight for the best spot.

Also, there are plenty of times and examples of people colluding to try lock out people forever despite the other party "causing trouble" or asking to get in.

Should Devs should wreck colluders?
What's appealing to a player base? Arena.. fight to see who's best. sounds fun. No one is entitled to first place, except those who fight for it fairly.

What's not appealing to most players? Making a total farce of the game and trying to turn SWGOH into some facebook clique where everyone feels entitled to whatever spot, and the losers get excluded like its highschool.

The answer seems obvious.
