It sucks. I did the same with my alt account since my 7 year old daughter was playing it with me. It is super annoying but as far as I have looked there is no way to change it.
The worse part is there also appears to be no way to move the account to a new device. With my main account, if my phone dies, i log in to google play on my new one and lose nothing.
On my alt if the tablet it's on dies, I'm out of luck.
