It can very easily, however you get a big warning that you are going to do it.

@TheChild_eats_eggs1 the dumb dumb question, are you sure you are logged into game center account in the game? Are you sure you where logged in before?

Every device has a "guest" account and this is what you start with. Most then bind game center or google play to this guest account and then the device gets a new guest account.
Guest account is tied to app/ device id which could be changed by iOS update (not 100% sure on that as I don't do iOS). New device/app I'd will make yet another guest account.

It asked me 30 mins prior: Do u want to link said account to logged in game centre acc. Answer I selected—> YES!

My guest account had been started ages ago and is no longer used

So without sounding like an idiot. You were using a guest account for your main account, then started a second account on the same device?

Is that correct?

As I did the same thing when I first started, I lost a week as I signed into game centre and restarted without realising. My original guest account was gone…

No. I used my apple id as my game centre account for my main, and a separate game centre account for the account that has had a problem.

Have you switched gamecentres? You can only have one gamecentre id attached to one Apple ID. So sign out and sign into the Apple ID attached to the gamecentre you are trying to use?

Ok so I have 2 apple ids. One is the apple id for the device and game centre account for main, and the other is game centre account for alt
