What is purpose of wait times after raid opens?

Is the purpose to say get on now it’s ready but wait for later time to auto. Or is it meant to give players time if they r late to attack a change for that?

It’s explained as we start at 7pm our time nothing else at this point don’t care if pit races keep u login it which for some it does got to do what u have to. But I’m guessing the pre load is because a auto won’t register sometimes or something if not done quickly? I notice within 5 minuets or so auto is over. And everyone is lvl 85 no low lvls just started in August so the difference is 3 yrs but always playing catch-up in shard or guild not much difference lol
