What is purpose of wait times after raid opens?

Is the purpose to say get on now it’s ready but wait for later time to auto. Or is it meant to give players time if they r late to attack a change for that?

The majority of us solo, so it's nice to be able to not be glued to the clock and raid timer to make sure nobody goes in and posts small damage, thereby wrecking your solo.....

oh so u have to start before damage is done to get it to count didn’t know
