What on earth is Phoenix squadron?

i have no idea who they are and I've no interest in learning. There are plenty of mainstream characters who could be added before this lot. Luke? R2? C3P0? Bossk? C'mon. Please can we focus on the ...

I can respect that, but I think you will miss out on a lot of great material.
The events are prior to ANH, I cant really see how a SW fan would miss out on that

Like if there is anything essential to the canon I'll watch it(like the end of season two and Maul coming back) but everything else in the show is just filler. Or any scenes with Vader, Ahsoka and Maul. But any of the shows "main" characters I could care less about.

There was a great episode a couple of weeks ago that really gets into the hierarchy of the Empire. It highlights why Thrawn is the real threat to the Rebels. There is only a bit of Ezra running around (he's mostly there as a decoy), Kanan and Rex stay on board a shuttle the whole time, so you don't have to worry about them.

It is an exceptionally clever episode.
