The update notes on protection were released on April 8. The actual update was on April 14. If you farmed 280 FOTP shards in 6 days you did it by spending asinine numbers of crystals for no discernible reason, a move you are solely responsible for.
I'm not buying it anyway. You are either very confused or are deliberately exaggerating for dramatic effect.
BTW, you claim they said: "Slow characters will be getting a damage increase and fast toons will be getting a damage increase."
What they actually said: "Speed will now be more important in calibration of a character’s damage output. Generally speaking, faster acting characters will see a damage reduction and slower characters will see an increase."
These are not the same. They never promised that all slow characters would get damage increases and fast ones decreases.
