The 5k crystal pack for 330 shards is random amongst the toons listed or can you select the one you want? Considering it's a 1 shot offer I'd hope it's not random

While that is technically true, 1299 crystals for 10 to 330 shards is not quite the same as 5000 for 330. Sure, you MIGHT get 330 but the odds are you will get a number of shards MUCH closer to 10.
That being said, I do agree with you.
Unlikely CG will do anything about it when a solution (at least in their eyes) already exists.
I just wish there was some middle ground to these two extremes.
