A Case for a Competitive Ewok Squad
This post will hopefully encourage those of you who are on the fence about investing in an ewok squad to ignore all the naysayers. I made the switch today to a full ewok squad for arena, purely for love of the ewoks and some fun, but I've been incredibly surprised by the fact that they actually work. They are winning battles I used to lose, and although I have a target on my back with them in, it's a blast. Here are the details regarding my shard and team to give some perspective:
I'm on a launch shard, so all the teams mentioned are maxed with good mods. Average speed needed to go first (excluding leader speed bonuses) is 260+. According to swgoh.gg, my average rank is 24 (as high as 1 and low as 60). The majority of teams in the top 20 are:
-Standard triple cleanse (Rex,nihilus,kenobi/r2,chaze)
-Vader, thrawn, nihilus, kenobi, SA/DT
-Thrawn, shore, kenobi, nihilus, TFP/DT
-Jedi + R2
-Few Maul stragglers
My team is:
Zirpa
Elder
Scout (g10)
Logray (3* g10, zeta)
Wicket (5*g9)
Right off the bat, this team is understarred, undergeared, and undermodded. Wickets speed is highest at 219 right now. My first battle was against the standard triple cleanse team, a team I struggled against for months. It wasn't even close, the ewoks smoked them. They targeted elder first but couldn't kill him, and then once I got rolling the heals and health up from logray just kept everyone alive. Took out kenobi first with ease, then Rex, nihilus, chaze. I know all the sheep on these forums have been screaming "ewoks will be Rex fodder with all those crits," but nobody really took into account what the ewoks are gaining per every crit as well. With all the assists available, my ewoks are gaining minimum 20% tm per every crit they dish out on a basic.
Wicket's forest ambush move is amazing too. With each ewok gaining 10% tm per crit, you're actually outgaining every non-clone enemy by 2.5% tm per crit.
Jedi were tougher as they can provide more of an initial onslaught, but I was able to withstand and then take care of business after that.
Maul was mostly easy, but savage proved to be pretty tough to deal with. Had a 5 v 1 against him for almost 3 minutes before Chirpas assist finally did enough to kill him.
The only team I haven't been able to beat so far is the thrawn/shoretrooper combo. Shore is just too difficult to deal with right now, but I'm not convinced that it's impossible. I will ideally like to sub paploo in for scout eventually, and the dispel on basic will be helpful for that team.
Overall I'm very impressed with the ewok rework now that I've been able to try it hands on and I'm not just listening to people who keep shouting "they suck" even though they've never tried them. Worried about not doing enough damage? 5 offense up/advantage ewoks can do some serious damage against any character out there on chirpas assist.
They aren't the best possible team, but they can beat most of the meta teams out there right now.
TL:DR
Don't let negative Nancy's stop you from trying these guys out if you are on the fence. They're fun and undeniably effective.
