About 「Retribution」

If both Malak and the sith trooper is taunting and my characters are countering due to the buff 「retribution」, shouldn't they counter the TARGET enemy 「usually the sith trooper」instead of attacking trooper and Malak at rodom? I don't think after sith trooper or Darth Revan's AOE, every single of my characters' countering Malak, who is not my target enemy, is reasonable. Not to say the harm caused by Malak's zeta to my whole battle.
