Interesting. I just tested in gal war, as the core part of the assist call is the same. It appears it can cascade on, as you propose.
I took Ackbar, Mothma and GK to test. When Ackbar uses either of his specials it calls Mothma, her basic calls Ackbar to a attack. When GK used his special to give retribution the same happened if Mothma was called.
The question to be tested live is: are the two weakest calls in addition to the random call, or do they replace it?
They will have to be careful to never add another rebel who can do a non attack basic, or this could cause a loop. At which time they will add a limit once per turn or something.
I took GK to test the counter part, and it appears to work as well, GMY did his aoe, all countered, then Ackbar attacked a second time from Mothma calling him.
