If you are level 40 you will destroy your shard in PvP if you join very early in the shard.
I joined my shard on Monday. It created on Saturday.
On Friday there was 21 people under level 40 in the top 50. Today there is two. Level really helps you place.
Secondly every character in the game has three techniques, zero, one or two unique abilities and maybe a leader ability.
What makes Phoenix special is that if you have a team led by hera I've they all share their unique abilities. So the more phoenix characters you have the better they are. So let's say Kanan may be weaker but since he gives the other four counter damage ability he may be worth using despite being weaker. So a phoenix team usually hits above its gp. Which is good as it doesn't have the same gp other teams may have with similar stars gear and levels.
I'm not sure but I would imagaine that the fact that you will be levels ahead may allow you to dominate your shard even if your team itself is sub optimal.
The one advice I would have is to consider what resources improve your for now team are scarce and which resources to improve your for now team are easily replaceable. For example you may want to conserve ability mat iii for your new team.
Also make sure to get a lot of high level allies that shares dark side characters. You will need to progress dark side battles for gear but your main team is light side and most of your 'for now's team is light side as well.
Also bear in mind you will be very light on scoundrels so will be unable to do credit heists. I assume,e you are in a guild. If so pick one and farm them from the guild store as it is a source you are not farming phoenix from.
