I think someone mentioned after the last tournament, the idea of having reward 'gateways' that you got once you hit a certain milestone in points. So, 200 points = 10k credits, 500 points = 5 crystals, you get the idea.
I feel this is a much fairer way to award participation - set the character shard rewards suitably high. That way, EVERYONE is on a level playing field, and you won't get situations where top 100 is, say, 5000 points on one ladder, and 10000 on another.
