Start climbing early. If he's ahead of you, jump to the shout right in front of him so he can only knock you back one spot.

Then do your next attack at random intervals. Do you think this guy is going to sit in arena and constantly check for your movement every few seconds for a consecutive 20-30 minutes? If you're in the twenties or below his refreshes won't see all the available spots and he'll have to use more time to check for your movement.

If you wait until the last minute he can predict the timing of your moves. If you start moving earlier your have a huge window.

I tried going an hour earlier and he was still waiting with baited breath apparently.
If I go too much earlier I'll just slide back because there's also a lot of non english speakers not in discord that move around that time. They're not being malicious so to say, they're not doing it on purpose, their payouts just seem to be in the same slot or so so they move at that time, I try to avoid them to be polite, they don't share the same courtesy.

I think the important point here is that you failed at diplomacy. Whether he's a liar or not doesn't matter, that you called him a liar does. What you ultimately wanted was for him to leave you alone and the best way to accomplish that was to be cool and work things out amicably. Instead, you put being right about how you interpreted the situation ahead of getting him to leave you alone and now you can't accomplish the original goal. Again, doesn't matter if you were right or not. Try a different approach next time and results will probably be different.

And not really, if he is a bit later he gets a free climb, then 50 crystals can in the very least lose him an hour of battles and keep him up there, still perfectly reasonable logic. I've had several conversations like that (without having to apologize for calling them a liar) and guess what, my climbs are stress free. Like I said, doesn't matter if you think he's a liar or not, you just can't persuade somebody to do something for you with the approach you took. That's life.
