Are relics even worth the work?

I have numerous toons up to relic 4, some at 5, and recently got gm Yoda to 6 and closing in at 7. Despite the stat boosts and increased damage, I was disappointed when I got gm Yoda to relic 6 in time for heroic sith raid and when going up against Darth sion I found that I dealt the same amount of damage (10 million) during that phase. Granted I know mods and the class type the toon is (attacker, support, tank, etc) can affect the overall stat boosts as not all toons get the same stat boosts from relics but it seemed rather sad that such a powerful toon can still do such minimal damage despite having the highest relic level of all my other relic'd toons.
