Blue Protection/Health Bar! How does it work?

I have protection on circle and cross, defense on diamond, on most of my characters. As an example
Sthan.

The blue protection/health bar looks like this

on my arena team.

But i am fighting teams in arena, where the blue protection/health bar looks like this (no, i am not fighting teams like this in this picture, down below, but the blue protection/health bar, of some teams i am fighting, looks like in this picture, just an example for the bar)

So, what am i doing wrong. Why do the blue bars of my characters have much less blocks than some other teams in arena? I even have better health mods than them. But still the blue bars of my characters are much weaker? How to make the blue bar stronger?
  • health mods impact the green health bar. The blue bar below the green bar is the turn meter bar. The very light pale blue bar is your protection and that is impacted by the primary stats on your mods (protection instead of health primary) and most greatly by the level of your character's gear.

Characters at higher gear levels get significantly more protection.
  • Gear level!!!!!! Higher gear = more protection (as well as more of every other stat)
  • Health mods aren't what's needed you need appropriate mods but with protection primaries on circle and maybe cross depending. A great resource to look at is Crouching Rancor in the tools section where it has a mod advisor for every character in the game.
  • Any time you upgrade a character (fill all six gear slots and hit the Upgrade button, that is) you get a big boost to protection.

Yes and no... % protection does much of nothing if you have no protection.

    23.5% of 0 = 0

You need high secondary protection stats to maximize the primary bonus.

If you have 40k protection before dropping protection primary mods... you'll start to see a HUGE increase.
  • One thing is all your toons are naturally quite squishy ones, even storm han is squishy for a tank.
Another is you need 23.5% protection promary mods. I believe there are 4 spots that has protection primary, but since Arrow is usually for speed primary, you can realistically have 3×23.5% protection boost just from primaries. That doesn't even count secondary protections!
Last but not least, you need to upgrade GEAR LEVELS! Not just one or two gear pieces, but all 6 pieces and press upgrade button. The moment you press the upgrade button is when you get more protection for your toons.
The protection gap between gear levels differ from toon to toon, but they are all incremental as levels go up and up.
Specific infos about base protection for each gear level is on swgoh.gg
Choose your toon on the website, Click gear levels menu, and you will see protection for each levels starting from gear 7 on the upper-right corner of each gear level specifications
