Embo or Cad would be your best bets for now. Depending on your resources, you might want to stick with Cad for now because his ship pairs so well with Hound's Tooth.
In the meantime, 88 can be modded to be a lot sturdier under either Boba or Bossk leads. For Bossk lead, load him with flat protection secondaries and a protection cross and circle. With the bonus max prot from Bossk lead, it will get multiplied. If you can find ones with both flat prot and potency like the attached one ( which is on my 88 ), they're ideal. For Boba lead, use a potency cross and look for secondaries with flat health and potency. Getting his target lock to stick requires crit chance and potency, so a CC triangle and the above setups will help him heal more often when he hits target locked enemies.
