What you're saying seems a good plan. Kenobi is at 5* better then rex, because rex biggest advantage is his TM gain which you won't get with padme. Another option besides R2 and C3PO is barris. If you have a zeta on het unique she makes your team very durable. If you go for barris, it might be better to wait with kenobi until he's 7*
Also when you unlock CLS, R2 and C3PO (especially C3PO) are very good with rebels (the best rebel team is CLS, han, chewie, C3PO and threepio and chewie) so when you make that team you can put barris again with your padme and you can get your 3PO with CLS
