I was thinking Sideous lead gear level don't matter. 3 throwaway tanks or tanky toons mid level G12 Marauder Marauder should gain 100% TM every time a bug attacks (20% TM gain X 5 assists) 100% ...

A full CLS team can have a hard time vs the bugs, so just the 3 is def not a hard counter. You got lucky.
Best hard counters are both revs, traya, GG, EP
