Can 7* g12 Gas beat max relic Gas?
Close to 7* with gas wondering if I would have to waste more equipment on this team or will g12 get the job done.

OP, if the opponent 501st team is all R5 and above, mods and zetas approximately equal, then no it is not possible. Your opponent arc trooper will destroy you with its assist and echo's grenade.
But your statement, "wondering if I have to waste more equipment on this team" simply is wrong.
5s, Rex, and even though not 501st still useful Clone Sargeant all have good ships that are useful for the current fleet meta.
Then 501st is a straight meta team where GAS is often included in the current GL Rey squad arena metas.
Then, an R7 Padme GAS team allows you to use Shaak with clones and potentially saving a C3PO for CLS.
R7 GAS is 1 of the most roster shifting toons in the game.
Wasteful does not describe that.
