Can I really replace my 12k Sidious with 6k Thrawn (arena)

I run a DN team in arena. Currently DN, EP, Sidious, Dooku, DV. Totals up to 61k power, which is a little over a tenth of my total GP. (Point is, max level but not near end game)

SiT needs a couple of stars (and maybe some gear) to jump in and replace someone
Rex needs some levels and gear before (some stars would help too) and will probably jump in sooner than SiT

I sit around the 500s right now in my shard. I think it's an older shard seeing as I quit the game and came back (I remember when the stores weren't connected and I remember when boba didn't use his gun)

Usually my arena fights are decided within the first couple turns as everyone throws that first round of debuffs. Who gets stunned or ability blocked. (why I want Rex). Note- My first zeta is probably my highest priority, but it's not within sight. Big oof on my part.

Sid is easily the least valuable member of the team. The healing immunity is occasionally useful, but if Sid is able to strut his stuff it's because more important members are doing there job. Most offensives end with him falling dying very quickly and it's like I might of well came in with 4. When he does go it's not the big of a deal.

I just so happened to look at his how much he can take before he falls. 4k protection (converted to health) and 11k health. 147 speed. (He sucks and my mod situation is laughable, so he literally has just 3 mods. I wish I had spare cantina energy and credits to fix it) The best I've got from him is him dodging Jedi attacks.

After looking at him I decided to check out Thrawn. A priority to level because he's cool and meta, but not that high of a priority because events and characters that are more important at the moment. Thrawn is 2 stars, one gear level, and almost 20 levels behind Sid.

Thrawn has 3k protection, 11k health, and 150 speed with no mods. While his offensive and ability to survive will probably be just as sad, he's got fracture and can pick a more important ally to go (likely Palp or DN) while dispelling (no protection tho...). I think that when he goes, it'll be more effective than when Sid does. I didn't bother looking at either toons defenses.

So this post is so I can ask- am I right about Thrawn having more of an impact that Sid will? If he does, I'll shoot him up a bit further up the priorities ladder. If he's better, I'll get him up right after my current r2 crisis is over. I'll even either move my one (relatively) good speed arrow on him or farm up a new one. (which will delay pheonix's ascent into 7 star land. enter picture of palp saying ironic here)

what I have, if it helps- https://swgoh.gg/u/deeziee/collection/

  • I didn't feel like my SiT was arena ready until 6* (granted I was top 10, not 500). He's a tank, he absolutely needs stars to be effective (though you really do need 5* mods). Also gear, you definitely need the highest gear you can on him to keep him alive.

For the record I ran zzDN, SA, SiT, Dooku, and either Zavage (80%) or EP (20%). Dooku is one of the best pieces in this team, do not replace him with EP. Replace someone else if you want to use EP.
  • @kevsmart I thought I was the only one who thought SiT needed some stars. He's relatively tough compared to my other guys, but not really. He'll definitely be on the team when he hits 5 stars unless I've moved away from Sith.

And I've been convinced to work on my mods right now instead of continuing to wait. It's a WIP

@MK61 I m I gotta disagree with you here. I've got some Wiggs as well. I'll admit that Dooku is better in longer fights when both teams have lost members and he's just countering and life stealing, but with my current team I don't think its worth losing that early multi-stun and then heal/buff denial through shock. Palp is better in the first few rounds, while Dooku takes the cake later in the game. I used Wiggs, r2, scarif and lando/luke farmboy/ackbar before I switched to Sith, and I get shut down by the vampire dooku a couple times, most of the time it was an easy wiggs snipe or r2 stealth and boom no counters. Palp shutting down a crucial member with stun was a lot more common. I'll admit that they didn't see much DN action.

My perspective on EP v Dooku might will change when Thrawn and Rex are in the team. Right now, Sid and Vader are the first to be replaced. (Vader occasionally has his moments, and I'll miss his specials). I'll definitely give leaving Dooku a try to see how he'll work under with things like taunts, tenacity up, and thrawn being the awesome versatile blue man.
  • Drop Sidious and focus on Sith Trooper as a replacement. SiT is a fantastic tank, he gains retribution and has health steal. Really hard to kill (can survive wiggs combo etc) and protects EP to cause more havoc.

I run Nihilus, Vader, Dooku, EP & SiT in Arena and sit at around 35 - 50.

As you pointed out yourself, you really need to work on your mods. First of all move those 2 mods with speed from R2D2 to your arena team. You REALLY need. As you pointed out yourself your battles are often decided early. Having the cantina energy and credits to fix it is only a matter of prioritizing. Manage your resources. f.ex. you don't need to promote and train toons, which you don't use anyway. Spend thise credits in the mod store to buy mods with speed stats. Make sure to 3* the highest tiers of both health and defense mod challenges to improve the quality of mods in mod store.

....did you manage to unlock Thrawn at 2 stars?

I think you would be better off running an Empire/Sith combo than a DN team, you are too far off from having a viable SiT and SA. Run EP lead, add in Thrawn, TFP, and some combination of Sid, Savage, Tarkin, and DN. I wouldn't run DN without a tank or two to protect him though, he'd be useless on defense without it.

Not useless on defense, if people dont go first for him he will annihilate and if they do EP will stun, tfp will put buff immunity and thrawn would fracture because they're left alone
  • @stepgib He was real squishy last time I brought him out, got killed by Wigs in GW real quick. But, I will start him again soon. I think I said I left the game and came back earlier. There is no way I'm reaching that high anytime soon.

@Waqui guess I wasn't clear. Those mods have been on my arena team. I my mods from my arena team to my emps, gave the event a few dozen tries, and concluded I need more power, so I moved the mods back. (This time Thrawn has mods instead of Sid)

I have a dozen units that aren't promoted to save credits. I haven't touched Maul, Savage, my rebels, yada yada yada I'm broke anyways.

I haven't done the last defense tier in mod challenges because that would require leveling Jedi instead of more important people. I got my Jedi past 5* Yoda and the second tier though. Other than Ezra/Kanan shards, not gonna keep pushing them till at the very least Thrawn and Rex are arena ready.

No, my Thrawn is at 5*. I was trying to convey that he is 2 stars behind Sid, who is at 7*

@ColemanTrebor kinda gotta agree with Kevsmart here. Unless things go hella well, attackers should be able to deal with DN without going after him first.

But after seeing what the Empire can do from this event, what @kevsmart said is looking really good. Under Palp, Tarkin can throw debuffs and then TFP is almost guaranteed 50% after he goes, with 20% if he applies tenacity down or even a double move if he applies enough buff immunity. I'd throw Thrawn in the mix, but I'd want a tank (don't have a viable one) instead of DN, DV

And after throwing on a couple more mods on my arena team and the last few offenses, I see why people were saying Dooku>Palp under DN. Still not convinced, leaning Dooku, but will probably try both characters. There goes the whole spending credits efficiently
