Capital ship speed

Does anyone know how the capital ship speed is supposed to work? I just faced an opponent with one more speed on his capital ship than mine, despite having a lower overall power and a weaker thrawn than me.

I thought that speed was a direct correlation to the crew power of your character (I had read this somewhere on the forum,) but as you can see from the photos below that is clearly not the case.

My thrawn also has more speed than his, so I’m really at a loss for why this is happening.

I get it, but the way it works is pretty dumb. I’m going against guys with AA speed of 147, all 6 dot mods, with capital ship speed of 179. My AA has speed of 246 but only four 6 dot mods, so capital ship speed 177. The speed of the underlying crew member should count for SOMETHING. Guess I’ll shuffle mods and forget about the actual speed of my AA. Thanks for the info.

Well, now that you know, you can remove those high speed secondaries from Ackbar and give them to characters that actually need them.
  • Yes, ship stars make a considerable contribution to ship speed. I think this is really what you want:

Edit: Also, you went to all the trouble to find a thread from ten months ago, when I'm pretty sure there's one with this exact topic that's currently on the main page. Try not to necro threads, this is a pretty common discussion.

Mod tier (color) affects crew power and thus ship GP without doing anything for the ship stats. Only mod rarity (dots) and mod level have an impact on stats like ship speed. To name an extreme example, if your Thrawn has grey 5-dot mods and the opponent's Thrawn has golden 5-dot mods, both Chimaeras will have the same stats if all other factors are equal, but your opponent's ship GP will be higher.

Ship ability levels also increase overall GP without improving the stats (unlike the ability happens to do so). Only mod rarity and level, pilot and gear level, pilot ability levels / zetas / relics, and the ship level boost ship stats.
  • Speed is affected by mods on the pilot. Every 2 6 dot mods bumps it up by 1.
  • Mods, gear snd abilities. Max speed of chimaera is 157. That requires full set of 6E mods all gear and both zetas.
  • There are other factors too, modifiers from the ships in the fleet.

It’s this. I just noticed he has all 6 dot mods, I only have two on thrawn. Guess I’ll do some slicing.

So you want pilots (many of them useless) to have more influence over ship power? Why?
  • Does the star ranking of the Chimaera make a difference?

In this scenario, this person has NO 6-dot mods, only 1 zeta, and still has a speed higher than me.

    HIM: no 6-dot, g12, 1 Zeta, 7*, CHIMAERA SPEED = 152
    ME: ALL 6-Dot, g12, 1 Zeta, 6*, CHIMERA SPEED = 147.

If he had a few g13 pieces in place, would that make a difference?
