As a Droid main, they're not dead, just struggling. You can still stay top 50 fairly easily, top 25 if you put in the effort and top 10 if you have min-maxed your droids to the limits.
That being said, I really share the frustrations of my fellows here. It's frustrating to get outpaced by characters with worse gear and fewer stars, simply because CG attaches more bells and whistles to new heroes. The power creep is real, and it's frustrating to have a very difficult time against teams that are poorly geared or organized simply because they're new and better.
I think people are focusing on the wrong elements here, though. Droid users aren't upset that our droids aren't top tier, or that we can't stay at the top of the shard with one team forever. The frustration comes from the power creep of other toons, and the fact that droids have always been at least playable, whereas it looks like now they might become unplayable in the future, if they don't get some love. In an ideal world, every hero would have potential and be viable in the right setting. Those of you who are claiming that you should have to constantly change teams to enjoy the game just baffle me. Farming new heros should be a way to expand your roster and tackle new challenges, like raids, ships, and an evolving meta, not because your old heros are becoming completely obsolete. The meta will always change, certain teams will rise and fall, and if droids fall behind it should be because meta teams are particularly effective against them, not because new heroes are literally just better. If I get boxed out of the top 10 in my shard because anti-crit teams become the meta, I won't bat an eye. I'll hope that we get some new options that make a droid team more flexible, and I'll carry on. But watching my team slowly get worse simply because new heros are objectively more powerful, with better kits and more options, is very frustrating.
For those of you who are using Nightsisters, Jawas, Tuskens, etc. as examples: those teams have never been viable. It's not fair to compare them to a team that had a place competitively and are now getting boxed out. I genuinely hope that CG gives those teams some love eventually too - my dream is that every hero will have a place (and of course some will be worse than others) but that you can make anything work if you have the right comp/mods/gear.
