F2P squad for GW

Phoenix

Generally, Phoenix is the best early-game squad to invest in. As Sabine is no longer in the guild store, this means Hera, Ezra, Kanan, Zeb, and Chopper. Their passive healing and shared uniques under Hera's lead make them one of the most resilient squads in the game for a long haul fight, and they'll serve you in GW and in the arena for a good, long while.

If you want a little more flexibility, there are a lot of decent early-game Rebel teams you can run. Lando, Leia, Biggs and Wedge (amazing as a pair, so-so individually), and Ezra are all good heavy hitters. Kanan, K2SO (especially with Cassian), Old Ben, Stormtrooper Han and Scarif Rebel Pathfinder are all good tanks. If you got Baze as your first pull you're lucky, because even at fresh unlock, he's one of the best tanks for rebels. And Chirrut is generally solid to throw in any rebels team for healing over time, but especially next to Baze. If you run a Lando lead in your rebels team, his leadership applies to rebels and scoundrels, so you can include Boba Fett.

One of the perks of Rebel teams is, there are a ton of them to mix and match, and most of them are at least good.

A decent early-game lineup for Rebels is Wedge lead, Biggs, then if you pulled Baze at the start, Chirrut, Baze, and either Lando or Leia. Else, Lando, Leia, and any tank. Most often Stormtrooper Han, since if he gets hit while taunting, he feeds the rest of your team turn meter so you can blow everything up.

I've been using phoenix since lvl 50 (now 73 almost 74) and clear it pretty much everyday just using them. I swap to a sith squad occasionaly (Nilhus, DV, Dooku, Sideous, Kylo ren (yes I know he isn't sith)) to deal with the later on teams by either weakening them for phoenix to clean up or just accept most of them will die to finish the GW.

Plus side note is you can invest GW back into your phoenix team by getting zeb to 7* which may also help you climb arena and get kanan up if you want to. Also phoenix can help you get EP and thrawn.

Phoenix is the easiest to farm with a ton of utility. Imperial Troopers so long as you have Veers and Snow are actually even better in GW, but tougher farms(but probably easier gear, Phoenix is a pain g8-9 and up).

Stormtrooper Han, Lei, FArmboy, old ben and Akbar are another option. All easy to get. And this team will have you ready for CLS.

Phoenix is my stalwart squad that I use for lots of things, but the OG rebels are good too.

phoenix, no 2 ways about it. Ton of value in other areas as well.

Respectfully, you need R2 for CLS.

And you need an Empire squad to get him.

You don't need Ackbar for CLS.

The question was one of early availability, James. R2 is not that, but the team listed is significant progress.
