All that you say is accurate.
I wish the MT event was tiered based on your MT's star level, and designed to therefore aggregate shards to you faster by giving you harder events as you star her.
So basically, at 3 stars, you get a tier 3 MT event that grants 8 shards on a win and can be refreshed -- so you can push her from 3 - 4 stars in two events (two months). Then you unlock a tier 4 event, which grants 16 shards on a win, so you can push her from 4 - 5 in two months if you are refreshing it. And so forth and so on.
The advantage is that it shortens the farm to a much more reasonable 8 months on the contigency that you are actually investing in MT and a nightsister team to be able to win the higher tiers of the event. You can't just rake in the shards over time and then build the team if you feel like it "one day".
