- And yet, you assert that the characters you, personally, know are the ones that are objectively "important" to the game, and the ones that you've never heard of are unimportant, despite being central to one of the most beloved Star Wars storylines of all time.

:D spot on. Some good, sensible, reasoned posts Funderbolt. (We'll have less of them please...really not the sort of thing we want to encourage around here...)"YaeVizsla;c-1590875" wrote:
Admiral Piett is little more than an extra. His sole job is to sweat while Vader is being a horrible boss. He has no impact on the plot. Even those who've seen the movie multiple times probably won't know his name, or realize it's the same character between scenes.
Oh contrary to your belief. Ken Colley is exceptionally famous and very very notable and memorable. You forget that Empire and Return of the Jedi are 80’s movies when another overseas franchise was big on popular television. Everyone knows Ken was Jesus in Monty Python’s The Life of Brian and though the movie focuses on Brian and Jesus is a minor role their paths cross frequently.
Ken has the distinction of being the only Imperial to make it through 2 movies without being choked out by Vader. He is a pencil pusher in the background commanding the Imperial Death Fleet under the worst of circumstances and what’s unsaid is he commands for three years until the Battle of Endor. That’s no small accomplishment.
It’s also been noted that Ackbar has more backstory in Legends than screen time to include X-Wing story arc of being Tarkin’s personal slave which is who he learned his tactical skills from. Yes this was in the video game and was a major plot point as to why your squadron had to disable the shuttle with Ackbar aboard. But in the movies, Admiral It’s a Trap has less screen time than Piett. Piett would be an awesome Imperial addition to Fleet if the Executor is even brought in game."YaeVizsla;c-1590959" wrote:

Why wouldn’t you want more Star Wars characters added to the game?
I want more characters added to the game. There are just three I specifically don't want in the game.
Revan, Meetra Surik, and Slave Leia.
Revan and Meetra for reasons I went over earlier in the thread. Revan and the Exile are first and foremost user generated Bioware protagonists, which made them a key point of representation in the Star Wars universe for a lot of fans. Giving either a race and sex is a Bad Idea and declares conflicting playthroughs invalid. I am aware other products have defined their race and sex. It's a bad idea in those, too, and the mistake should not be repeated.
Slave Leia is on the list for completely different reasons. The image is sleazy, and Disney is right to distance the IP from it.
Revan has an out clause that I would find acceptable, as their iconic look includes heavy, form concealing robes and a mask. Just use neutral pronouns and I would have no objection.
Revan and Meetra do not just exist in KOTOR. Star Wars timeline can’t function properly with generic characters running around, so Meetra and Revan have been given origins, a race, a gender, and a personality just like every other character. I’m sorry for people who looked to Revan for representation, but outside the game, he has to have a strict story. Disney however, has declared KOTOR non-canon, opening up an opportunity to revamp Revan. A very different Revan, but ONE Revan. (Same with Meetra)- There are many non-cannon characters in the game. That is what makes this so much fun. They can pull from anywhere. Not knowing who or how characters are released keeps us all on our toes.

For the record, I think Revan is dumb and irrelevant. Until we have the main course that is actual canon characters that all Star Wars fans know and care about, e.g. Jedi Luke, Rebel Chewbacca, etc., then we shouldn’t be focusing on the trivial side dishes.
A meal consists of several dishes for good reason. If one ate nothing but meat, the main course, it would become dull and unintersting. No, appetizers, side dishes, and deserts must be provided in equal quantities to create a meal that keeps people coming back."Funderbolts;c-1590937" wrote:
Now clearly I don’t have any statistics or evidence outside of anectodal, but my anecdotal evidence suggests that casual fans know the movie characters more than the non-movie characters. And when you’re a company attempting to maximize capital from a game (capital games, anyone?), you’re going to want to appeal to the majority rather than the hardcore minority.
This would be poor marketing. There's a plethora of characters that can be released from things outside of the movies. Doing so encourages fans to observe these other star wars media. In addition, there are only so many iconic characters that are universally recognized by star wars fans across the spectrum. These are best saved as trump cards for when profits and activity start to slump to keep the game chugging along. In other words, they shouldn't be used to prevent lagging activity, that should be used to reverse lagging activity. If they blew all their trump cards up front, what do they have left for a comeback?"YaeVizsla;c-1590959" wrote:

I find your Revan objection to be a bit weird.
The bioware protagonist was a middle aged white male by default.
Sure you could alter the appearance, but that was so people could put themselves in the game. Doing so REPLACED Revan with themselves. Revan has always had a defined gender/race... even in those games.
People weren't dictating what Revan looked like by playing with the character editor, they were dictating what THEIR character looked like."Woodroward;c-1591126" wrote:

Thank you, I guess I tried to say that, but you explained much better. I also haven’t played KOTOR, I just know the basics- OMG stop with the nerd war.
We are all nerds down here. Can't we all just nerd along? "Luke2310;c-1589968" wrote:
Revan would be a cool character to be both light/dark side (purple background on his icon?) and both jedi and sith tags and could have different buffs/abilities depending on the balance of Jedi/sith in the team.
Just a thought, would definitely mix things up
Exactly what I've been saying since he was first mentioned years back.
No reason to have two versions of Revan. Just give him his dual sabers with Jedi, Sith, Light Side, Dark Side tags and have his attacks/leader/uniques affect both sides differently.
That way we get an Arena with Jedi AND Sith, not just one dominate team.
