How does a team with worse stats get a huge TM advantage at start?

Was it a full mirror match? i.e, did you have your own Paploo? And was he faster than your opponents?

Also, did the opposing Paploo start with Galvanize?

Paploo has +25% speed when not taunting so your opponent had about 225 speed. Galvanize grants +10% TM to an ally. This combo might explain things.
