How does reinforcements work for fleet battles?

I was always under the impression that your reinforcement order when you set a fleet on defense gets called in the same way that you set it. However, my executor that I have on defense called my reinforcements in backwards which called in my terrible 4th reinforcement instead of my boba 1st and ig 2nd. This resulted in my opponent getting 76 banners from fighting my 7 star executor and could have been the cause to lose my GAC match. Did something change??
