I've never come close to finishing. I'm level 69 and have a really solid squad with an ok back up. I thought it might be because I was finishing in the top 20 in the arena so I put out the worst squad I had and dropped into the 1000's. Still can't get past the sixth battle. Help.
Unfortunately, your GW is based off of the highest arena power you've ever won an arena match on, so throwing your arena rank won't change anything. At least thats the last "official" word we've been given.
With that being said, as others have stated, you need healers. And you need to take advantage of the "retreat" feature. To do this, click the round settings looking button. Now when after you retreat, if you try the exact same attack, you will get the exact same result. There is only 1 thing that will change things up, thats if you change a toon in your squad. Meaning, say you open your GW match, and right off the bat, you get zapped by a Dooku stun. If you immediately retreat and don't change your lineup, when you start your GW again, Dooku will zap the same toon, with the same result. OK, now say that happened (start GW match, get stunned by Dooku,) but this time, after you retreat, you make a change to your lineup, Dooku will attack a different toon, with a different result. If you then retreat again, unless you change your lineup again, it will be the same. I use multiple retreats per node sometimes.
There is also suicide squads. Since retreating will net the same results unless you change your lineup, sometimes, if you know you could beat it if they didn't have their special moves, you can send in a suicide squad, and any damage they do will stick, as well as any cooldowns they are on. So I'll send in my common fodder, it will draw special moves, die and they will be on cooldown, then send in your main team, and wipe the floor with the toons on cooldown. Also, keep in mind, if that team is strong enough to take the specials and do damage, the damage sticks. Be warned, don't ever try to take out Sid this way. You can beat him to the edge of his life, but when your suicide squad gets taken out, Sids health will replenish.
Finally, I've found since reaching higher levels, its extremely beneficial to no only have and A and B team, but to also have a C team to use.
Just to let you know, at higher levels you will have an arena lineup and a GW lineup. Healers aren't really a necessity in arena if your damage output s high enough. For GW, you want at least 2 healers if not 3.
I'm on a day 1 hard release server. I finish in the top 50 with my team of
7*Poggle lead
7*GS
7*IG86 (omega)
7*Poe
7*Phasma
And i waltz through GW daily with a lineup of
7*Barris lead
7*Lumi
7*JC
7*QGJ
7*Yoda
2 entirely different lineups for the 2 separate game modes.
I just gave you the wealth of my knowledge. Hope it helps. If you take my advice you will have no problems beating GW. But my main asset to GW is without a doubt Barris. She is my rockstar in GW and the Yoda event. I certainly couldn't walk through GW daily, nor could I have gotten my 6* or 7* Yoda without that trader....grr.... I mean Barris.
