Is everything about speed?

I've been playing for a few months and when it comes to mods I generally auto assign based on what the game tells me. I've started reading the forums really just this week and I'm starting to get the feeling that speed is valued over all other stats regardless of that character's main stat. Am I correct?
  • Yeah, in 98% of cases. Also, read stuff and watch vids. The suggested mods are…not good

Speed is the king of stats. You can safely sell 99.5% of mods that do not show speed when all their secondaries are revealed.

There are a handful of characters who don't need speed, or need very little of it - mostly passive-taunting tanks and characters that gain lots of turn meter. By and large, though, you want as much as you can possibly get. Faster = more turns = kill your enemies before they kill you. Some teams also benefit from clocking your speeds so that your characters get their turns in a specific order; Beskar Mando is a good example.

Also, the ingame mod suggestions are a tire fire. I would suggest watching Playbook's mod series, it will give you the basic info you need to farm effectively and determine which mods are worth slicing and which are a lost cause: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DPKsVWqlG6E

  • Xaereth has some useful stuff on YouTube about this: characters that don’t need speed, those that do, as well as those “lever” characters that can kick-start their whole team so they don’t all need to be fast
  • Adding speed is good for almost every character, but speed may be less good of an addition than other stats depending on the character, like crit damage and crit chance sets on Han Solo, or health for General grievous. Speed then becomes the secondary stat you're looking for, and would likely break ties between mods when deciding which to apply

    Yes.

Well, not Nest. Everyone else, yes.
  • Also Droideka. Generally wants either no speed at all or middling speed, depending.

That is highly disagreed by many.

Do you want a lightning fast Droideka? Most of its kit revolves around not having speed I thought.

Fast enough to likely go before all enemies so it gets in damage immunity and starts assisting immediately. Teams that counter DDK stun it immediately or worse. 200 set speed equals 300 speed while out of damage immunity. 230 would give you 345.

That would be great. A slow DDK loses 4 assists and will likely be debuffed before it can shield.
