Is GK OP?

For the record I don't think he is considering how difficult it is to obtain him, but I'd like to know what the majority of the players think that have fought against GK

  • The fact that he’s such a grind to get to 7* and has a wicked set of gear to acquire makes it tolerable that he’s such a powerful character. He’s hard to get but very much worth the effort and I think that’s fair.
  • Annoying?....yes.

    OP?....no.

3 more raids and mine will be 7*. Besides the time to farm him...his gear kit is probably the most expensive around. I'm glad he is difficult to farm, gear and works will in any squad combination. That makes him all the more worth it to use him. He is annoying to fight against when you don't use the right characters..but that doesn't mean he is over powered.

He is simply just a solid toon to use and in order to beat teams that use him you have to use stratagey..not just push any buttons for an easy win.

As hard as he is to farm and gear...he isn't getting a nerf ever. Just like Chaze, just like Wiggs, just like Rey...new toons will come out that counter hard to beat toons now.

As someone who doesn't even have him yet, but constantly face him in top arena ranks i can without a doubt say that DN, Thrawn and Chaze are a lot more annoying then Kenobi.
That being said he is not the hardest farm. Atleast these days you can get in to guilds that have HAAT on farm easily if you contribute 600 raid tickets. I would say other auto taunting tanks like Baze and shore are a lot more annoying to farm unless you have vast amounts of crystals to spare.

You literally named the 4 next most used and OP toons in top tier arena, that's like saying "this $1000 pizza isn't expensive, that place across the corner sells them for $1100"

Well the thing is i dont see the other ones OP either, just annoying. The only thing i would like is for them to work as good but only with their respective teams. GK with Jedi, Thrawn with Empire, Chaze with Rebels, Nihilus with Sith

Sad, but true. My biggest concern with this game is the ridiculous power creep all the time.
And no, I don't mean the so called "power rating" cause that's an absolute joke now.

I think most people are voting he's fine so as to not awaken the nerf-herders and people just like Kenobi or possibly because of how he has to be unlocked, but if he isn't OP than no one is. He's not even a widely distributed toon like DN is, yet he's up to 71% usage on #1 teams compared to 77% for DN. His team crit immunity on a passive skill alone shuts down large chunks of the roster that depend on crits. Taunters have always been meta in SWGoH and he does it passively, better than anyone else in the game. There's NO lead in the game that even gives 100% retribution and only 1 toon (Dooku) that has 100% retribution, yet Kenobi can give that to the entire team no matter the faction. Cleanse is also a key meta skill and he does that as well for the entire team, all factions included. Throw in more passive foresight spam that wastes enemy turns - that's a LOT of team aid :)

Oh and on his own offense, he has the full team assist that often can OHKO a specific toon.

So with just one character defensively you get:

    1. Team crit immunity (wow all by itself)
    2. Spam taunt protection (again, great by itself)
    3. Team cleanse all factions (great by itself)
    4. Self and team foresight generation (100% evasion is elite)

    Offensively you get:
    1. Full team assist regardless of faction (Most or all other characters only can get full team assist from a specific faction - so yes, this is elite and unique) - you also look at the less damage - it's just 30% less damage. When Veers calls troopers it's 40% less damage. When Cody calls clones it's 40% less damage. So yes, that's pretty OP in that he not only calls all factions to assist, unlike Cody or Veers, but he also does MORE damage across those factions :)
    2. 100% retribution chance up on entire team, regardless of faction. Again, there's no leader skill that does this, they don't make mods that let you have 100% retribution, and there's only 1 here at all in the game with 100% counter chance (dooku).

That's one insanely overpowered kit relative to anything else.

Devs worse mistake since a few new toons release is that they're implementing way too much generical overpowered new characters. I mean GK, Nihilus, Thrawn, Rex or even R2 can fit any kind of team without a single restriction.

I wouldn't call a nerf on such toons, but something has to be done about generical overpowered toons cause in the end you only need to put them together and call that a team.
Truth is that power creep comes along with a serious lack of focus, if one can build the best team ever in just adding the most powerful toons around, there's no balance.

So yeah GK is OP, but i don't mind as long as he's in a Republic team, i don't even see why he should be as powerful in a Sith team or whatever cause, well... Even Sith team are using him even after a faction pass. So there's an issue here.
  • GK is one of the hardest toons in the game to get. All of the other toons you can buy or farm. Yes, arguably expensive, if you have to buy the 1299 pack, or even with Chromiums or at 80 crystals a shard, but you can buy them, unlock, and 7* them fairly quickly.

You can't do that with GK. You have to not only get a guild that can farm heroic tank raid, but also wait around, collecting 12 shards a week for two and a half months just to unlock him, and then again to 7* him.

As a single character that you are forced to wait about 5 months to 7*, I certainly hope he's a bit OP. Raid Han was also a bit OP for his time. Before auto taunts, if you had Raid Han you could basically choose who to shut down (Biggs most likely, or STH) and then your Biggs could go first and take out the first toon. That was OP, too. As well it should be. It's a little unfortunate that auto-taunt came removing his effectiveness.

Yes it does take a while to get him, but it's not like you're missing out on anything else to get him. If I decide to go onto the hard side battles and farm shoretrooper I am giving up any of the other things I could have done with that 60 energy a day over the course of months. And that's for an average of one shard a day. Kenobi you just gradually get without making much of a choice because there is no one else to get from heroic AAT raids.
  • I voted yes, for one reason only.

On my shard other than two Maul leads in the top 30 ... every other team has him in the squad. Not even Nihilus is in that many squads.

It is not surprising that he is in that many teams, auto taunt, foresight when he has to be attacked, cleanser, assist caller. No one can say he isn't a top 5 toon at the worst. In a game with as many toons as we have, all top 5 toons are at least slightly OP. Plus he is behind a wall (which is much smaller now than it used to be) but when he first came out he was definitely OP, now just slightly overpowered in comparison to any other tank in the game.
