Is reaching relic 7 even worth it?
So I find this particular issue to be very frustrating. Call me a newb but is it really worth the trouble of fully relicing a toon? Sure mods make all the difference because by the end of the day ever...

R6 and R7 give double the improvement that R1-5 give, so they're more like R7 and R9. For some characters this makes a big difference (like attackers). You have to look at the mastery stats affected and determine if it's worth it. Most you can get away with R5. The zimbiddle card gear requirement should make you think pretty hard about whether to go R7 or stay at R6.
Actually you will find the bonuses from each relic level from 1-2 2-3 3-4 and so on to be similar in the amount of stats they give.
