Tfp and tarkin fit in well with your empire plan. You are already done with phoenix so unlock those ships. The ships are average but because the pilots are your best people they will be your best ships for a while.
Krum is one of the better first order options and he and his ship are together on a 10 energy cantina node. It's a great node because you basically get double drops (ship and character) like phoenix ships the ship isn't amazing but in the early game your best pilots are the best ships.
